In October 2015, Hilary Burns ran a two day workshop teaching us how to make a North Devon Maund - a general purpose agricultural basket which was traditionally made from white willow and used in the pannier markets of Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and Bideford. Participants began by making an oval base which becomes an oblong by the time the border is reached and contains four stout corner posts which protrude at the bottom as feet. Handles were attached to each side, and an oblong lid was also made.
