WHATS ON / WORKSHOPS / APRIL 2024

Saturday, 27th April 2024, 10am-4.30pm

OXFORDSHIRE BASKETMAKERS – LISA ATKIN / NEOLITHIC WEAVE

Workshop fee: £45 per person. Suitable for beginners and intermediates.
Materials cost: £10-30 per person to be paid in cash on the day. 10am-4.30pm, with 30 minutes for lunch.

This workshop will give you the opportunity to make three different items, all in Neolithic weave; a rooted basket, a standing basket and/or a side bag with a leather strap.

You will learn how to weave a bag shape, and then, depending on your choice, Lisa will guide you through the making process of the ‘Rooted’ and  ‘Standing’ Neolithic basket styles. Lisa will bring plenty of samples to inspire you and demonstrate the technique. She will provide handouts and offer individual support to enable you to create your own unique samples and pieces at whatever scale you want to work at. If you would like to you can bring along matching green or seasoned Y shaped sticks to use as legs for the standing basket. Lisa will bring along some that she has permission to forage from Epping Forest too.

To book this workshop you will need to complete a Booking Form. Click on one of these links Word document or PDF document and send to our Workshop Co-ordinator using the email address found in the downloadable Word document or PDF document.

Lisa won the Basketmakers’ Award at Cockpit in 2021 sponsored by The Worshipful Company of Basketmakers, and recently her ‘Rooted’ basket was a runner-up in the Worshipful Company’s Basket of the Year competition.
