CONTEMPORARY ASYMMETRIC FORAGING BASKETS with CLARE SHIVLOCK
Discover the perfect blend of traditional basket making techniques and contemporary design in this creative, full-day, willow basket weaving workshop. Whether you’re a beginner or have some stake-and-strand basket making experience, you’ll learn to create a beautiful, round willow basket using colourful, natural willows, topped with a contemporary asymmetric border – a finish designed by Stanislaw Dziubak. Tuition, use of tools and all willow material is included. Feel free to bring your own piece of twisted hazel, driftwood or special wood to incorporate as a funky handle for a truly personal touch!
About your tutor
Clare Shilvock (Warwickshire Willow) is an artist driven by a deep connection to nature, creating unique works of art from her home-grown, vibrant willows. A fully qualified teacher, she also holds a City & Guilds Level 2 (Certificate in Creative Techniques in 2D and 3D) and the Level 3 (Diploma in Craft Skills for Creative Industries) from Westhope College, grounding her creative practice in expert knowledge.
Inspired by a desire to live lightly on the land, she weaves both traditional and contemporary baskets, sculptures, garden structures, and homeware. Each woven piece is a testament to her commitment to sustainability, blending heritage craftsmanship with modern design to offer beautifully functional alternatives for today’s world.
A passionate advocate for preserving ancient craft techniques, Clare is dedicated to keeping these skills alive through hands-on workshops and taster sessions. Based in Stratford-upon-Avon and working across The Cotswolds, she invites others to explore the art of basketry, sharing her knowledge and fostering a sense of connection with both the craft and the natural world. Through her work, she hopes to inspire others to appreciate the beauty and sustainability of willow, creating a ripple of “willowy love” that extends far beyond her studio.
