OB was founded in 1999
It developed out of an informal group of local makers and enthusiasts who for some years had been meeting and sharing their skills.
Founder members were inspired by the first Oxford Summer School (1991), the Pitt Rivers Museum’s exhibition Basketmakers (1992), the activities of the national Basketmakers’ Association and the City & Guilds basketry courses offered by the City Lit in London with workshops, talks, visits, social gatherings and opportunities to exhibit.

A newsletter, printed 3 times a year and sent out to all members. e-news – will continue being delivered via email as a valuable way of keeping in touch with nearly all of our member base. Make sure we have your email address.
Although we have posted workshop information through other FB groups – The Basketmakers Association and South East Basketmakers we now are keen to set up own OB facebook account. So watch this space.
