OXFORDSHIRE BASKETMAKERS NEW YEAR SOCIAL, Committee and all members of OB are welcome!

This year’s NYS will be a whole day event as we are having two speakers. The meeting will start at 11am and close at 4.30pm.

11.00   Refreshments

11.30   Erick Nascimento-Vidal. ‘Contemporary basketmaking in North West Amazonia: a complex of possibilities’. Highlighting the sheer variety of materials, techniques, shapes, pattern, uses, and to give an idea of how they can be compared to each other.

12.30   Lunch break, bring packed lunch or use nearby cafes and shops.

2.00     Polly Pollock.  A ‘Q and A’ session on her recent residency at the Museum of European Culture, Berlin. Creating new work inspired by the exhibition ‘ALL HANDS ON’ Basketry and hosting events and workshops during her time there. Such as: ‘Weave your own up cycling chip basket’.

3.00  Refreshments and catching up.

EVENT VENUE: North Oxford Association Community Centre, Diamond Place, Summertown, Oxford OX2 7DP

There are two council run car parks on either side of the Centre, Diamond Place, off Banbury Road if arriving from the west and the Ferry Car Park, accessed from Marston Ferry Road if coming from the ring road. Summertown is well serviced by public transport. Additionally, the Peartree Park & Ride is reasonably close by with a bus route (300) taking you directly along the Woodstock Road into the Summertown location, then a walk along Oakthorpe Road and then into Diamond Place to the venue.
